CarCube helps the drivers to drive more safely
The assignment
Transports Vervaeke is first of all a service-providing company. "We do very many fairly short trips every day," says Frédéric Derumeaux, Operations Director at Transports Vervaeke. "Informing our customers quickly is very important. Staying on the ball is only possible if you have the necessary information available immediately.
"Besides flexibility, safety is also one of our top priorities. For the drivers are underway every day with hazardous goods."
The solution
The whole fleet is fitted with the CarCube transport management solution, which will be integrated with a still-to-be determined TMS package in due course. The intention is that customers will be able to send orders in electronically, which will then be processed and planned in by Vervaeke. Then the information will be sent on via the CarCube to the trucks and invoicing will happen electronically.
The impact
"Because safety is so important in our business, we pay a lot of attention to our drivers' road habits. Via the CarCube, linked to the CANbus, we notice immediately if a certain driver takes an unauthorised diversion. We can thus trace every lost kilometre, we know what speed and consumption are, how often he has braked, what the revs were at a given moment, etc. Based on an analysis of this information, we will give the driver a score. If this is too low, we can intervene to direct his driving habits on an extra course," explains the chief of the tank transport company. "This not only means a not-insignificant saving on fuel and maintenance costs, but also less risk of accidents."
The choice
"We certainly didn't just jump into this," says Frédéric Derumeaux, Operations Director at Transports Vervaeke. "We compared different systems rigorously with each other, and came to the conclusion that CarCube was by far the best solution for us. In the short term, ease of use for our drivers was decisive. If I look at the longer term, I am convinced that with the CarCube's innovative technology we are in good shape and will be able to take care of our future needs without problems." He then adds: "We were also particularly taken with the professional and open approach of the Punch Telematix project team. It clicked, and that is important, for the future too."
The customer
Vervaeke is an established name in tank transport. The business was founded in 1934 in Spiere in West Flanders by Michel Vervaeke. For the first few years it was restricted to general transport, but at the start of the 1950s, the company was the first to dare to transport sulphuric acid by road. Gradually, the firm went over completely to tank transport of hazardous liquid substances. Meantime, the company had gained branches in Zellik (near Brussels) and Seneffe (near Mons) and had grown to number one in ADR tank transport in Belgium.
