Technological innovation for a better and even faster service for clients.

The assignment

In order to make punctual deliveries to these 400 clients on a daily basis, there is a real need for a high level of automation.  Each year, Java invests around EUR 2.5 million in logistical innovations alone. An on-board computer is indispensable for monitoring the temperature of refrigerated loads and obtaining an overview of deliveries at a glance.

The solution

The trucks were fitted with the CarCube, an on-board computer with data and voice communication, navigation and track&trace all in one. This was integrated with the RMONI temperature monitoring system and the applications developed by Java for logistics and planning.

The impact

"In our industry, it is vitally important that the temperature can be monitored continuously during transportation. The value of our goods stands or falls by whether or not they are kept at the correct temperature. Via the CarCube, which has been connected to a temperature sensor, we obtain real-time information about the temperature in the refrigerated trucks and, if necessary, are able to take action in good time. This means that our loads also comply with the strict ISO standards and we are able to guarantee fresh quality for our clients," explains Dirk Otto, Logistics and Transport Manager.

"Bearing in mind the current traffic situation, respecting the unloading times agreed with our clients regularly proves to be no easy task.  That is why it is so important that we know where our drivers are at every moment of the day and that we can reach them easily via the CarCube. This means that, if necessary, we can inform the client if the delivery is delayed and the client is pleased that he does not have to sit and wait needlessly without receiving any information.
In this way, the CarCube contributes to the provision of a better and speedier service for our clients - something that is greatly appreciated," concludes Dirk Otto.

Our decision

As a technologically advanced company, Java selects its suppliers carefully. The open architecture, allowing integration with the company's own back-office applications and temperature recording system, and the fact that Punch Telematix itself took care of the installation of the on-board computers in the vehicles, were significant factors in the decision.

The client

A number of years ago the producer of the well-known coffee brand Java underwent complete restructuring to become a specialist distributor of dry food items and non-food items to the hotel and catering industry, companies, associations and cooperatives. The subsidiary Fresh Trans takes care of the delivery of ultra-fresh food items.  Every day, 260 employees (of whom 55 are drivers) stand by to deliver a prompt service to 400 clients a day in Belgium, Luxemburg and Northern France.
