The company, headquartered in Lengerich, in the Westphalia region of Germany, is currently implementing a new automatic payroll and expense accounting module for its Punch Telematix CarCube onboard computer. “Fleetwatch” provides a transparent overview of work, driving and rest times, eliminating the need for manual daily or weekly reports.
“We wanted to relieve the burden on scheduling, to allow it to concentrate on its core activity," explains Volker Lauxtermann, Manager of the Lengerich branch. The implementation of FleetWatch makes manual input superfluous, even data analyses can be run automatically.
The range of evaluations offered by the new module includes journey reports and analyses, as well as a breakdown of the driver’s activities. FleetWatch can also be used to generate a detailed analysis of performance measurement systems, including calculation of any deviations from targets for each activity, average waiting times at customers and real-time post-calculations of individual routes for plan/actual comparisons.
At the start of 2008, Sievert introduced the CarCube telematics system from Punch Telematix, equipping 220 vehicles with the onboard computer. “One of the key criteria in our decision was the system’s open architecture which allows us to integrate new modules or connect external devices at any time. As illustrated by the implementation of FleetWatch,” explains Lauxtermann.
The branch manager views the main advantage as being the elimination of manual data input, after checks against tachograph recordings, as well as the previous transfer of data to Excel for analysis.
Journey information is now transmitted directly from the onboard computer to FleetWatch, and the sometimes very complex payroll and expense accounting takes place automatically. “This represents a huge time saving for our HR department as well as a reduction in the error rate,” concludes Lauxtermann.
