“The Punch Telematix digital driving style assistant allows direct measurement of results. The driver can immediately see the effects of his braking, acceleration and gear changes, and this feedback helps him to improve his driving style," explains Marcus Oberfeld, IT Manager of Greiwing logistics for you GmbH. The first successes are already apparent: an average fall in fuel consumption of around eight percent, combined with a significant reduction in maintenance and wear costs.
To encourage drivers to reduce their fuel consumption, Greiwing has introduced a special reward programme, whereby drivers receive a share of up to 30 percent of the savings made. Before using the driving style assistant, the drivers took part in the ÖkoDrive training programme run by the Institut für Verkehrspädagogik [Institute of Traffic Education]. The course comprises theoretic and practical units covering the main factors of fuel consumption and identifies personal saving potential.
In 2008, the logistics service provider Greiwing equipped a total of 200 of its vehicles with the Punch Telematix CarCube. "A key factor in our decision was the system’s open architecture, as well as its user friendliness. A further advantage was the ability to use telemetry data to reduce fuel and maintenance costs, and we are now reaping the benefits of the digital driving style assistant,” says Marcus Oberfeld.
